More holiday means more fun! For those of you with time and possibly the stamina this is not to be missed! Our Golden Triangle tour starts with our Dragon’s tail tour, and then continues to explore the area northeast of Chiang Mai – Chiang Rai and the Golden Triangle.

I would love to come back. Went to Vietnam for spring holiday and I was just thinking about time I went back to Thailand and finish the final bit of the 12 day enduro ! That 6 days up north was the best experience I have had on a bike in my life.
Still trying to get permission from the wife but I am working on it.

Itinerary

Days 1 to 6. As 7-day enduro

Day 7 Chiang Dao – Mae Suay (200 km narrow tarmac with optional offroad loops). Today is a road trip – small winding roads of course. For those who just love to ride offroad we’ve some nice trails in between as well. By early afternoon we will arrive in a Karen hilltribe village. Our accommodation is a small lodge built by a Swiss guy who married a Karen woman. It’s a really relaxing place in the heart of the mountains of northern Thailand.

Day 8 Mae Suay - Mae Sai (180 km, 30% offroad). For the first two hours we ride through Wawi Valley, where some parts are still offroad. After lunch at a riverside restaurant we go to the famous Doi Mae Salong, a village high in the mountains. Mae Salong (now known as Santikharee) was founded in 1962 by Kuomintang Chinese and became famous as a centre for exiled Chinese. It’s quite a shock to see Chinese faces and Chinese style buildings in the hills of the northern Thailand! The local market is dominated by Chinese goods. Then an endless winding tarmac road brings us to Mae Sai, the border town to Myanmar (Burma) by the end of the day.

Day 9 Mae Sai – Golden Triangle -  Chiang Rai (110 km, road. After breakfast we have an opportunity to cross the bridge into Burma and visit the market at Tachilek. Just  another 30 minutes ride and we arrive at the Golden Triangle, which is famous to most Westerners for its former opium production. Here we have time to take a riverboat ride on the mighty Mekong river and visit a market in Laos. Another 90 minutes riding brings us to our comfortable city hotel in Chiang Rai. In the evening we visit the local food market and the night bazaar.

Day 10 Chiang Rai (loop, flexible distance, mix of road and offroad). We have a choice today. You can either take the day off, or come on our half-day trip around Chiang Rai - fantastic trails and dirt roads with stunning views, and the chance to visit an elephant camp and a waterfall before returning to Chiang Rai. Maybe this evening its time for some Italian food or a big tenderloin steak!?

Day 11 Chiang Rai  – Chiang Mai (200 km road, with optional offroad loops if time permits). Another chance to ride trough the mountains of northern Thailand We arrive back in our base camp by early afternoon. After a snack we bring you to our city hotel in Chiang Mai. There’s time for sightseeing, bargain hunting or just relaxing by the pool.

Day 12 Chiang Mai. The hardest day of the tour – transfer to the airport for your flight home!
