1. Do I need any special vaccinations? Morocco does not require any particular vaccinations, but we would recommend you speak with your own doctor before coming.
2. Should I bring cash or credit cards for spending money? There are cash points in various locations throughout the tours. You can also exchange foreign currency in most of the hotels.
3. How much should I bring? Enough to cover your bar bills and souvenirs. Beer costs 2 euros for a 33cl can and a bottle of local wine 13 euros.
4. I have a little offroad experience, would you recommend I get further? To get the most from your tour experience with us we would recommend you get as much practice as possible. We suggest you contact one of the following UK companies: Peak District, www.overlandtrailtours.co.uk; Wales, www.trailworld.co.uk; and in the South www.excessenergy.co.uk. Less experienced offroaders should also consider our more leisurely tours out of Essaouira with guidance and tuition if required.
5. Dehydration. I have heard this can be a problem? Keeping yourself rehydrated whilst exercising in any hot climate is very important. We recommend you bring along some rehydration salts. These are available over the counter from all pharmacies. Rehydration/power drinks in powder form such as Isostar or lucozade are ideal.
6. What is the mobile phone coverage like? Often and perhaps surprisingly better than the UK, though in the Atlas Mountains and Desert the coverage is very patchy.
7. What’s the crime situation in Morocco? Generally only petty crime and it is opportunist. Leave your camera lying around and it could quite possibly go.
8. Can I do extra days of biking? Yes, after the tour.
9. My family/friends would like to do a parallel holiday but they are non-bikers. Can you suggest something? With all our local knowledge acquired during the last 12 years of operating in Morocco, we can assist in organizing most of your requirements.
10. What is the accommodation like? Many of our clients tell us we do not make enough of our accommodation, as it is way above what they expected. All our hotels are 3-4*, most built in the local Kasbah style, with hot showers, A/C, bars serving alcohol, swimming pools and friendly staff. They generally present breakfast and dinner in a plentiful buffet style. On the tours that include nights in a bivouac (desert campsite) – one of the highlights of the tours – you will sleep in a jaima (Berber tent), or under the stars if you prefer, and they all offer hot showers and mattresses, sheets and lots of warm Moroccan blankets for the cold early mornings, as well as delicious hot evening meals.
