Experience Carnaval in Mexico by motorcycle! Our tour is more than just an opportunity to enjoy one of Mexico’s greatest fiestas. Carnaval Veracruz is loaded with great riding as well as the our emphasis on cultural and historical highlights. Come ride with us and experience Mardigras, Mexico style. Due to the demands of this special event please book early. For centuries this Gulf of Mexico port has witnessed the arrival of invaders, the vanquishing of tyrants, the ravages of pirates and even a military expedition by US Marines. Yet it survives as a romantic and intriguing port, rich in history, a crossroads of the Americas. Notorious for its Mardigras, Veracruz has an energy and character that is more than just Mexican...it is uniquely Veracruzano!
Today's visitor can feel the energy. The Plaza de Armas is a world-class arena for people-watching, where the marimba is the native instrument and musicians never seem to sleep. Rich black coffee, complemented with hot milk, if you please, is served ceremoniously in the open air Paroquia, where tapping the tall glass noisily with your spoon brings an immediate refill...if you can handle it. The seafood here is legendary and a good Cuban cigar is an easy find. Mardigras or Carnaval, is a non-stop party and the third largest such celebration in the world. Even as a spectator, we dare you to not be drawn into the spirit of the ultimate Mexican fiesta.
Although the city of the True Cross is the main destination, this tour delivers much more! You'll see one of Mesoamerica's most impressive archaeological sights…Teotihuacan, the magnificent pyramid city…where you can climb the Pyramid of the Sun, one of the largest pyramids in the world. The ruins of El Tajin near Poza Rica, are small in comparison, but the high flying performance of native Indians known as Voladores are sure to give a thrill. The ride along the Pan American Highway through the high mountains of the Sierra Madre Orientales offers some of the best motorcycling anywhere. Come join us! Vamanos muchachos!
Highlights
- Veracruz is the third largest Mardigras celebration in the world behind Rio de Janeiro and New Orleans. While it is tame compared to the shenanigans of Bourbon S, the real passion is in the dance and the music. A fantastic people watching event that is certain to draw you into the fever of Carnaval. Even among Mexicans, Veracruz is regarded as distinctive with its own unique attitude, cuisine and music (“La Bamba” is an old Veracruzano folk song). You will find this Gulf of Mexico port city to be worthy of exploration.
- Teotihuacán predated the dominance of the Aztecs in Mexico and in recent years links to the Mayan cultures to the South have been determined. This archaeological sight is one of the finest in all of Mesoamerica, an ancient sprawling city of pyramids, temples and boulevards.
- The Sierra Gorda inhabited by the Huasteca Indians is one of Mexico’s best riding roads. Travelling along the old Pan American Highway you will enjoy the views and appreciate the opportunity to be sporting as you take on miles of great curves.
- El Tajin. Mexico is best understood if you look into its past. The ancient ruins of the city of el Tajin will fascinate you. With world renowned performances of the Voladores, the Flying Indians, you will easily imagine how life must have been prior to the arrival of the Europeans in 1519.
- In the shadows of the volcano Popocatepytle our guides ‘discovered’ the village of Huejotzingo quite by accident some years ago. Each season there is a re-creation of the Romeo and Juliet-like legend involving parades of men and women adorned in 18th century attire wearing masks and firing muskets into the air. It is chaotic and hilarious, and you are certain to be the only gringos there so be prepared to be welcomed and to get native!
- The routing of the Carnaval Veracruz motorcycle tour allows us to take advantage of some exceptional accommodations. We pride in our selection of lodging, just one reason why riders return to H-C Travel year after year.
