MEX - ColonialOur Colonial Tour is a dramatic motorcycle ride through Mexico, with lush tropical vegetation, tall pines and awesome desert valleys. Each day presents a new look and scenic reward.

The Colonial Tour introduces you to Mexico's history, beginning with the arrival of conquistadors from Spain in 1519 and lasting until the War of Independence in 1821. European colonists brought much of their tradition, creating a life-style in the image of their homeland. Everywhere are reminders of the Old World. Cathedrals, convents and monasteries, fashioned in styles of Baroque and Gothic, reveal the influence of religion. Even the food and music are elements unique to the region.

Along the trail of the conquistadors, Mexico's earliest cultures are also present. Before the blue-eyed conquerors there were, and still remain, the native indigenous peoples. At a time when Mexico is modernising, it still remains richly entrenched in its past with traditions and folklore that can be traced through the centuries. The Colonial Tour is truly an awakening for those whose knowledge of Mexico has been limited to the border and beach towns.

Old world elegance and native Indian colour, this is the Colonial Tour. The real Mexico brought to you by those who know Mexico best.

We have long said that if you have only one Mexico tour to take, it should be our Colonial. Along these roads through Central Mexico you will discover a touch of Europe South of the Rio Grande. A great value and a tour that will have you falling in love with Mexico just as our guides have.

Highlights

  • The Central regions of Old Mexico are often referred to as the Bajio and it is here where you will discover that taste of Europe south of the Rio Grande. You are constantly made aware of Old World influences by
  • Encounters with Spanish and Moorish architecture evident in the churches, monasteries and fortresses.
  • San Miguel de Allende has become the most popular ex-patriot scene in Mexico, attracting artists, romantics and those who are seeking the tranquility of a more laid back and typically Mexican lifestyle.
  • The Sierra Gorda. Riding along the trail of Father Junipero Serra, the Sierra Gorda offers some of Mexico’s finest motorcycling roads. Rising from an arid desert encircled by jagged towering mountains, you will soon be in the cool pine forests. A decent to the tropical eastern slopes of the region inhabited by the Huasteca Indians will no doubt be counted as one of your most spectacular rides.
  • Xilitla (sh-leet-la) is a small village in the Sierra Gorda. The enchanting jungle art of Las Pozas, the creation of eccentric English nobleman Edward James (1907-1984), is one of those bizarre encounters that make international travel so fun and interesting.
  • The Hacienda Santa Engracia has been a favourite stop of ours for many years. It is an authentic relic of the 17th century that provides the perfect Old Mexico setting for your final night south of the Rio Grande.
