Never ridden in Mexico? Want to give it a try? Here is a fun and hassle free way to discover Mexico!
This is a road tour on particularly nice, lightly travelled roads offering a tremendous variety of scenery. Although it's a short Mexico tour, it's long on fun, quality, culture and activities.
When you ride through the state of Chihuahua, you can't help but sense the presence of Francisco Villa. It was here, after the turn of the century, that ‘Pancho’ gained early notoriety. A boy forced into a life of banditry for avenging an assault on his younger sister, Pancho later rose through the ranks as a powerful and charismatic guerrilla leader, commanding an army that numbered 50,000 during the Mexico Revolution of 1910-1921. A tour of Chihuahua City will reveal more about the history of the region, and of course, the impact that Villa had on Old Mexico and even the United States!
Another highlight is the Copper Canyon region where, until recently, the train was the principal mode of transportation. Today, new paved roads are etching their way through the mountainous region and one can ride to the rim of the great Barranca del Cobre (Copper Canyon) overlooking the confluence of five canyons. Just as fascinating are the region's inhabitants, an aboriginal people known as the Tarahumara, many of whom still live in caves. Over 50,000 Tarahumara use the canyon region as a cultural fortress preserving their centuries old lifestyles and traditions.
Our Copper Canyon tour is timed to run during the best climate conditions of the Chihuahua desert and Sierra Madres. Convenient, affordable and stress-free, this is one tour for all motorcycle-touring enthusiasts. Viva Villa, Viva Chihuahua!
The Copper Canyon has been our stomping grounds since we first toured Mexico. Our guides know the region better than anyone When we first started riding in this region of Chihuahua state, there were few paved roads. What was once dominated by those who enjoy getting dirty in the dualsport motorcycling world, today is shared by those who prefer to stay on the pavement. With lightly travelled, scenic and sporting roads now lacing through the Sierra Madres, you can enjoy this tour on any kind of motorcycle.
Highlights
- The Copper Canyon, said to be four times greater in size than the Grand Canyon in the USA.
- Our ride from Parral to Creel is exceptional, filled with awesome scenery and mile after mile of enjoyable bends. The ride is capped with an overnight stay on the rim of the canyon.
- Meet the Tarahumara Indians, known worldwide for their long distance running abilities and aboriginal traditions.
- Overnight in the capital city of Chihuahua and visit the once home of Pancho Villa, now a museum.
- Nuevas Casas Grandes is a community that seems fairly mundane on the surface. But its history speaks volumes. Casas Grandes was founded by Mormons, was once occupied heavily by Chinese, is known for an artistic pre-Hispanic culture called the Paquime and as the bivouac area for 11,000 gringo troops who chased but never found Pancho Villa during the Punitive Expedition of 1916. Like many H-C Travel destinations, this one is not high on the tourist list but is a landmark of both Mexican and USA history.
