For experienced off road bikers, a total of 7 days with 5 days biking plus day of arrival and departure. We tour the southern foothills of the High Atlas Mountains, the cathedral dunes at Erg Chebbi (the highest in Morocco), the Sahara Desert and the green fertile palmeries of the Draa Valley.
Itinerary
DAY 1 Arrive Ouarzazate. After your evening flight from via Casablanca to Ouarzazate, we meet you at the airport and transfer you to our first night’s 4* hotel.
DAY 2 Ouarzazate - Tineghir (250 km). After a good continental breakfast and a full briefing, you will be given your bike and riding equipment. We then set out for our first experience of Morocco. The first 65 km is on-road to Skoura and a bit beyond. Then it's off up into the "Valley of the Roses" and the southern foothills of the High Atlas mountains. Lunch at Boulmalne de Dades after which it's off-road into the Jebel Sahro mountain range, considered some of the most beautiful mountains in Morocco. Dinner and accommodation in our 4* hotel with swimming pool.
DAY 3 Tineghir - Erfoud (160 km). After breakfast we start with a 14 km detour to visit the Todra Gorge (one of Morocco's premiere tourist attractions). After refuelling it’s a very fast section across the desert to Goulmima where we have our picnic lunch in the palmerie followed by virgin desert - no tracks! We navigate by GPS through small dunes and dry riverbeds to Erfoud. Particular care to be taken on this section. Finish the day with cool beers by the pool in our 4* hotel..
DAY 4 Erfoud - Merzouga (120 km). After another good breakfast we make our way to Urg Chebbi (about 45 km) and the famous Red Dunes at Merzouga, where we will attempt to reach the top of the highest "cathedral" dune. After lunch in a local auberge, a further 65-km ride across flat desert tracks and dried lakebeds takes us to tonight’s accommodation in a Berber tent, situated close to a large area of medium (approx. 80 m high) sized dunes. In the late afternoon/early evening, once the sand has cooled down, and fuel permitting, we might go and bike some more in the dunes or take a walk to the top and see the sunset. Dinner.
DAY 5 Merzouga - Zagora (190 km). Breakfast and another early start across the desert towards Zagora. It’s 30 km to our refuelling point at the village of Remlia. Today’s riding is characterised by flat, dry lakebeds, deep sandy riverbeds, winding sandy trails, plenty of "fesh fesh" (bull dust) and some rocky pistes. Dinner and accommodation in 3 star French owned hotel styled on a Moroccan kasbah.
DAY 6 Zagora - Ouarzazate (180 km). Our final day’s riding takes us back to our 4* hotel in Ouarzazate. The morning is spent riding biking through palmeries in the Draa Valley (about 90 km), followed by 90 km on-road, going over the Tizi-n-Tifnifft pass with its spectacular scenery. Late lunch by the hotel pool.
DAY 7 Depart Ouarzazate. Early rise (!) for your transfer to the airport for you flight home.
