Our El Diablo road tour of northwestern Mexico offers probably the best riding roads in Mexico. It is routed to take advantage of the ‘Devil’s Backbone’ that runs from west to east out of the Pacific port of Mazatlan, and the ‘Gran Vision Highway’ that slices through Copper Canyon country. Add to this the sprawling plains of Durango sliced by steep gorges, this one is pure riding pleasure.
And combine this great riding with the Colonial charm of Alamos, the fun of seaside fiesta in Mazatlan and you'll have a sample of all that makes Mexico such an exciting and rewarding travel experience.
If you have never been to Mexico, or only to the border towns, please believe us when we say you have yet to experience the warmth of this fun loving country. The kindness of the people is legendary, the enchanting flavours of centuries of native and European influences make for as exotic a ride as you will almost anywhere in the world.
There are only two dates each season with autumn and spring the ideal time to deal with the diversity of altitudes. So review the highlights, start talking with your friends and get ready to ride Mexico with those who know Mexico best....
Highlights
- The Devils Backbone of Mexico is possibly the longest 150 mile ride on Earth. You intersect with the spine of the Sierra Madres with incredible sprawling views of rugged canyons and a web of peaks and mountain ranges. From the resort city of Mazatlan on the Pacific to the city of Durango, in a day you will experience lush green tropics, pine forests and cool high desert. A dynamic and sporting day of riding to remember.
- Mazatlan is unique among Mexican coastal resorts in that it is not a fabrication. Once a Spanish port, the population is proudly connected with its past. It is a carefree gem on the Pacific and a chance for a little cha-cha-cha. With two nights here you can take optional rides, engage in world class deep sea fishing or just enjoy the beach.
- The Copper Canyon has been our stomping grounds since the beginning of our Mexican tour days. Our guides know the region well.
- The ride from Parral to Creel is exceptional, filled with awesome scenery and mile after mile of enjoyable curves, capped by an overnight stay on the rim of the canyon.
- Nuevas Casas Grandes is a community that seems fairly mundane on the surface. But its history speaks volumes. Casas Grandes was founded by Mormons, was once occupied heavily by Chinese, is known for an artistic pre-Hispanic culture called the Paquime, and was the bivouac area for 11,000 gringo troops who chased but never found Pancho Villa during the Punitive Expedition of 1916. Like many of our destinations, this one is not high on the tourist list but is a landmark of both Mexican and USA history.
- El Fuerte has attained a more modern reputation as a staging area for the outdoorsman. A healthy supply of white wing dove, duck and hard fighting black mouth bass draw hunters and anglers from all over the world to this region. For us, El Fuerte is an opportunity to sample a taste of Colonial Mexico and Spanish influence.
