The Gaspesie tour is the most popular of our eastern Canada self-guided tours, and our itinerary takes you through this remote, but beautiful region. The Gaspesie is unlike anywhere else in North America with its unique blend of French culture (in many places the locals won’t or can’t speak English, just like in France!) and style mixed with scenery carved by the mighty St Lawrence.

In short the bike trip was brilliant. The bike (Honda ST1300) was really good, very comfortable and great handling. Manon and Keith were friendly and Keith gave us lots of useful information about the roads and the bike. The information we received from you was comprehensive and the directions easy to follow. The hotels were all very good - clean with friendly staff who spoke English.

Itinerary

DAY 1 Arrive Montreal. On arrival at Montreal Airport, take the shuttle to our tour hotel. Montreal is known as the city of 100 steeples, also known as the Northern New Orleans. Take in the old port, the Notre Dame Basilica, St Joseph’s Oratory, the underground galleries, the Biodome, the Plateau Mont-Royal and of course the Grand Prix ‘circuit’. Le Pomerol Hotel.

DAY 2 Montreal – Quebec (250 km). After breakfast we collect you from your hotel to pick up the motorcycle. Once the formalities are out of the way, you’re off on a gentle ride up the St Lawrence Seaway to Quebec City. Here you can explore French Canada’s capital city, a fortress with vestiges of ‘Nouvelle France’ and a World Heritage Site. Chateau Laurier.

DAY 3 Quebec – Tadoussac (220 km). You leave behind cosmopolitan Quebec and exchange it for the great outdoors. Follow the St Lawrence Seaway eastwards to the UNESCO protected Charlevoix region, with its rich natural treasures and cultural heritage. And it’s a great biking road too! Tadoussac is a famous whale-watching area, so make sure you allow time this afternoon or tomorrow morning. Hotel Georges.

DAY 4 Tadoussac – Matane (200 km). Today’s ride takes you across the mighty St Lawrence Seaway by ferry to the northern shores of the Gaspe Peninsula, with several imposing lighthouses. You will then cross the Matane Wildlife Reserve, and with luck your first moose. And try the shrimp, considered by many the most delectable on the planet. Hotel Belle Plage.

DAY 5 Matane – Perce (370 km). Today’s ride is one of the possibly the best on the tour, as you explore this beautiful unspoilt region. First off are the luxuriant flora and fauna of the Chic Chocs Wildlife Reserve. Then it’s Forillon Park and on to Gaspe Bay – Canada’s birthplace, ‘discovered’ in 1534 by Jacques Cartier – and finally legendary Perce Rock. Hotel Le Mirage.

DAY 6 Perce – Carleton (190 km). Allow time for a cruise to Bonaventure Island today. Then carry on round the peninsula to the picturesque port of Carleton. Francis Hotel.

DAY 7 Carleton – Riviere du Loup (355 km). We head back across country today to complete our circuit of the Gaspesie Peninsual, and return to the familiar St Laurence Seaway. Auberge la Solaillerie.

DAY 8 Riviere du Loup – Montreal (430 km). You final day’s ride takes you back down the St Lawrence seaway, through Quebec to Montreal. After you’ve returned your bike, we’ll take you back to your downtown hotel for your final evening. Alternatively, if you wish to ride around Montreal, we will schedule your motorcycle return for tomorrow morning. Le Pomerol Hotel.

DAY 9 Depart Montreal. Depending on your flight time, there should be time to stroll around Montreal and glean a few more memories before taking the airport shuttle for your flight home.

Total distance  c. 2100 km
