Many riders and passengers are learning to appreciate the benefits of our escorted (or guided) tours, offering an opportunity to combine some great motorcycling with a more social holiday - and the opportunity to visit places, ride roads and do things you might otherwise miss, and learn a little more about the land you are riding through. And of course you don't have any organisational worries. In fact our guided tours are proving so popular that we have had to introduce a maximum of 15 bikes per tour, and have added new dates. Itineraries of all of our guided tours are given in the brochure.
H-C Travel offers the largest selection of road tours in the USA, using experienced guides, covering some of the most exciting roads (yes, they do have bends, mountains and hairpins!) and spectacular scenery in the USA. On the West Coast you can choose from our long weekenders in California to our most popular tour, the 16-day Wild West tour. We also have tours to and through the Rockies, bringing you the delights of famous landmarks such as the Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Arches National Park, Indian reservations, the Million Dollar Highway and spectacular mountain and desert scenery. And of course we shouldn’t forget Route 66 - Or Daytona – Or Sturgis!

Your guides Wherever we offer guided tours - and the USA is no exception – we place great emphasis on our guides’ local knowledge, local contacts, familiarity with your motorcycles and ability to make your holiday that little bit special. H-C Travel is the only motorcycle tour operator in the UK that adopts this approach – we believe that if a tour guide needs maps or satnav, or doesn’t know the tour and the localities inside out, then you as a customer are wasting your money and might as well take a self-guided tour. Most of you will only take a particular tour once in your life, and we know how important it is to make sure you get the very best experience possible. Fortunately for us and our satisfied customers – and sadly for many riders who have made this mistake and not booked their dream holiday this way – this apparently simple formula is actually extremely hard to do.
Andy and Petra Andy and Petra Wegener are more than just tour guides. They are also responsible for making our ground arrangements in the USA, keeping on top of our hotel bookings and making sure your motorcycle is waiting for you. Originally from Germany, Andy and Petra toured the USA by Harley-Davidson many years ago, and loved the experience so much they went back again and again until they finally decided to stay to make it possible for you to enjoy America as much as they do.
Gary Gary is a gem and a real professional. He is totally dedicated to making this tour work and ensuring everyone is satisfied, with their needs met.
Vince Easter, UK, 2008
Gary Fleshman is a native of Colorado and lives in the mountains above Denver. He has been working in the tourism industry since he was 8 years old, and he’s now nearing 40, so he is pretty experienced. Gary is also a trained chef, and part-time truck driver, and for someone who spends his life guiding tours on his Harley-Davidson, he knows a lot about BMWs as well.
He is our recognised Route 66 expert, having ridden or driven ’the Mother Road’ dozens of times. What he doesn’t know about this historic route, one of the World’s ‘ultimate journeys’, places to stop and people to meet, isn’t worth knowing. His approach to guiding typifies our attitude to you as a customer – care and attention to detail.
Gary has his own website, so for some fun pictures why not check out http://www.bears-to-travel.blogspot.com
Don Don Tompkins is a retired San Diego fire-fighter who has been guiding our motorcycle tours since 2005. He and his wife, Mary Jo, now live in Grand Junction, Colorado. Don was born in Indiana, considered the Crossroads of America.
His passion for travel started early as a boy with his family. He has toured by car and sometimes motorcycle, to many areas across America, including the original Route 66 during its “glory years”. Don has extensive personal motorcycle riding experience from 38 years of touring and attending rallies all around the USA, Canada and Baja Mexico. He guides our Route 66, Wild West and Rocky Mountains tours. His greatest joy in having you on tour is: Showing off America in the safest way possible.
Tom Tom Painter started as a motorcycle tour guide in 2006. He is definitely a “people person” and meeting new friends is one of things he enjoys most about guiding. After working in the aerospace industry as a financial specialist and later owning a property management company, much of Tom’s retirement is now spent on his Harley-Davidson and riding the open road. Tour guiding is a perfect match for Tom because it enables him to combine his love of motorcycling with the opportunity to meet and ride with fellow motorcycle enthusiasts from around the world.
Tom set out on his first extended motorcycle road trip in 1987. That first trip was over after three weeks but a passion for the open road was ignited and he has been taking long-distance motorcycle road trips ever since. Few people can match Tom’s knowledge and experience of the many highways and back roads of the western United States.
Tom takes pride and great satisfaction in showing customers some of the most beautiful scenery in the USA. “After completing tours, many clients tell me the trip was their best holiday ever. Every time I hear that, I feel great. I know the wonderful memories will last a lifetime and it just doesn’t get any better than that.”
Dean Dean Cognito is the newbie, he started as a motorcycle tour guide in 2008. But has been a motorcycle enthusiast his entire life. He bought his first motorcycle at the age of 12 with money earned from a paper round. By 14, he was working as a lot boy for a local motorcycle dealer and racing motocross in his spare time. He graduated to road racing where he earned second place in the state of California before retiring to raise his family and work his way up to Service Manager (also known as master trouble shooter) at several motor sports dealerships throughout Southern California.
Continuing the tradition, Dean taught both his sons (and now his grandsons) to ride at the age of 4. Many vacations and weekend trips were planned around camping in the RV and riding dirt bikes and ATV’s. This gradually led to organizing rides for friends and family throughout the southwestern United States. The highlight of the last six summers has been the road ride Dean has led throughout the backroads of Utah and Colorado for friends. And, for the past 12 years, Dean has participated in the Rocky Mountain 400, an invitation-only dirt bike ride. He also guides the Sierra Safari ride out of Mammoth Lakes, California, involving 150 riders travelling to Hawthorne, Nevada, over a trail that Dean has marked.
About 10 years ago, Dean got back into racing and is a navigator in the Baja 1000, the Baja 500, and other desert races. Whether it is riding an ATV over the sand dunes at Pismo Beach or Glamis; a dirt bike over the Mohave Desert or the Sierra Nevada or Rocky Mountains; or a road bike on the twisty backroads of Colorado, Utah, or Tennessee, Dean lives, loves and breathes everything about motorcycle riding.
