Gary’s backup was brilliant ... there was an awful lot that he did behind the scenes that wasn’t necessarily visible to us but nevertheless showed itself in terms of hotels, lunch stops and helicopter trip all expecting us at the right time.

QUICK LINK - Prebookable Tour Options

America – A world in one country and a riding experience like no other. From the Florida Keys to the Million Dollar Highway, from Fall in New England to high summer the Mojave Desert, America has it all. Leave the big cities like Washington DC, Los Angeles, Denver or Las Vegas and within 50 miles you will be on empty roads with stunning scenery. The pioneer spirit kicks in, and you feel master / mistress of all you survey….

So let H-C Travel take you on an adventure, one you know won’t disappoint. Combine having a great time with the opportunity to visit the places and ride the roads we know and love, and you would probably never find on your own, and learn a little more about the land you are riding through, thanks to the expertise of our guides.

On an H-C Travel tour you can ride some of the most exciting roads (yes, they do have bends, mountains and hairpins!) and see the most spectacular scenery in the USA. You’ll be spoilt for choice: choose between California Dreamin’, PCH All the Way, the ultimate scenic tour, the Wild West, High Chaparral, Cowboys & Indians, and of course we shouldn’t forget our signature tour Route 66!

And then there are our ‘event’ tours to the Sturgis Rally and Daytona Bike Week.

Please click on the tour itinerary for information on our itinerary, dates, prices, optional activities and full travel arrangements.

USA - AndyPetraAndy and Petra Wegener are more than just tour guides. They own California Sunriders are responsible for making our ground arrangements in the USA, keeping on top of our hotel bookings and making sure your motorcycle is waiting for you. Originally from Germany, Andy and Petra toured the USA by Harley-Davidson many years ago, and loved the experience so much they went back again and again until they finally decided to stay and make it possible for you to enjoy America as much as they do. After about 10 years running motorcycle tours for a major US company they agreed to work with Orange & Black and help us establish a new benchmark for tours.

the mountains above Denver. He has been working in the tourism industry since he was 8 years old, and he’s now nearing 40, so he is pretty experienced. Gary is also a trained chef, journalism graduate and part-time truck driver.

He is our recognised Route 66 expert, having ridden or driven ’the Mother Road’ dozens of times. What he doesn’t know about this historic route, one of the World’s ‘ultimate journeys’, places to stop and people to meet, isn’t worth knowing. His approach to guiding typifies our attitude to you as a customer – care and attention to detail.

Gary has his own website, so for some fun pictures why not check out http://www.bears-to-travel.blogspot.com

Gary is a gem and a real professional. He is totally dedicated to making this tour work and ensuring everyone is satisfied, with their needs met.

USA - Don1Don
Don Tompkins is a retired San Diego fire-fighter who has been guiding our motorcycle tours since 2005. He and his wife, Mary Jo, now live in Grand Junction, Colorado.

Don was born in Indiana, considered the Crossroads of America. Don has extensive personal motorcycle riding experience from 38 years of touring and attending rallies all around the USA, Canada and Baja Mexico. His greatest joy in having you on tour is: Showing off America in the safest way possible.

TomUSA - Tom1
Tom Painter started as a motorcycle tour guide in 2006. He is definitely a “people person” and meeting new friends is one of things he enjoys most about guiding. After working in the aerospace industry as a financial specialist and later owning a property management company, much of Tom’s retirement is now spent on his Harley-Davidson and riding the open road. Tour guiding is a perfect match for Tom because it enables him to combine his love of motorcycling with the opportunity to meet and ride with fellow motorcycle enthusiasts from around the world.
Few people can match Tom’s knowledge and experience of the many highways and back roads of the western United States.
Tom takes pride and great satisfaction in showing customers some of the most beautiful scenery in the USA. “After completing tours, many clients tell me the trip was their best holiday ever. Every time I hear that, I feel great. I know the wonderful memories will last a lifetime and it just doesn’t get any better than that.”

Dean
Dean Cognito is the newbie. He started as a motorcycle tour guide in 2008, but has been a motorcycle enthusiast his entire life. He bought his first motorcycle at the age of 12 with money earned from a paper round. By 14, he was working as a lot boy for a local motorcycle dealer and racing motocross in his spare time. He graduated to road racing where he earned second place in the state of California before retiring to raise his family and work his way up to Service Manager (also known as master trouble shooter) at several motor sports dealerships throughout Southern California. Dean is a regular participant in the Rocky Mountain 400, an invitation-only dirt bike ride. He also guides the Sierra Safari ride out of Mammoth Lakes, California, involving 150 riders travelling to Hawthorne, Nevada, over a trail that Dean has marked. And about 10 years ago, Dean got back into racing and is a navigator in the Baja 1000, the Baja 500, and other desert races. This guy lives, loves and breathes everything about motorcycle riding.

Slot Canyon Tour

Our private Secret Canyon Adventure starts with a 30 minute hummer adventure. The trek to the canyon is filled with obstacles and difficult terrain that coincidentally is perfect for our Hummers! You'll enjoy thrilling sand hill climbs, hair raising rock crawls, and our famous, personally trademarked “Hummer Half-Pipes”! Our Hummer Adventure stops outside the canyon entrance where we begin a short hike across a beautiful, peaceful desert landscape filled with plants and wildlife.  Then entering into Secret Canyon we'll experience its natural beauty in a way which no other slot canyon can be experienced. In our small group (max 6 people), you’ll be free from the crowds, noises, flashes, and all other nuisances. We spend the next 90 minutes or so exploring and photographing the many beautiful and unique natural features created from the millions of years of erosion in the over 20 m deep slot canyon.  This canyon is just as beautiful if not more beautiful than any other toured slot canyon in the area, the difference is being able to enjoy it without feeling like you're just another number. We guarantee this will be your tour and your canyon!

As the ground crew shrinks in size and begins following your path, the surrounding views are magnified. The astounding spires and arches begin to take shape in the distance. Depending on the direction of the wind, our flight path may take us over towering buttes and deep canyons or simply provide the most amazing viewpoint available. Our ground crew will meet you at our unique landing location. From there, you'll pack up the balloon and be returned to your vehicle. Be sure to bring your camera! How do I book?

At H-C Travel we like to keep things as simple and straightforward as we can for. However, we do need you to read out terms and conditions, complete our booking form and pay a small deposit before we can confirm your tour place. This can all be done online, by phone by email or by post, the choice is yours.

  • Our tour deposit is just £250 per bike
  • Tour balances are due 9 weeks before the start of the tour
  • If you would like to book additional items such as the bike insurance upgrades (CDW and SLI), pre- and post-tour accommodation, excursions, etc, now is the best time to do it.
  • If you would like us to arrange flights we can do that any time within 11 months of the end of the tour. Most low flight prices require full payment at the time of booking and are non-changeable and non-refundable (sorry, but those are the airlines’ rules, not ours!).
  • You should take out our travel insurance before booking flights in case you require cancellation protection. We can do this on the phone or you can do it at leisure online at www.bikerstravelinsurance.co.uk. It usually takes about 5 minutes and you will receive your documents immediately by email.
  • If you have your own travel / medical insurance in place that is fine, but it must offer equivalent or better cover than ours and must cover you for medical and repatriation costs in case of accident on a large-capacity motorcycle. Most widely available policies either don’t cover you at all, or only up to 125cc or 250cc bikes (and it is one reason why we developed our own policy).
  • You will also need to apply for an ESTA or US visa once we have confirmed your place on tour. ESTAs are available to EU and some other nationalities and currently (2011) cost $14. If you are quoted more you are not on the right website. The website is https://esta.cbp.gov/travel.
  • Once you have paid your deposit, we will send you a confirmation with a provisional itinerary and some background information on travelling to and in the USA.
  • Once you have paid your balance we will send you your tourpack, including the final accommodation list, and flight and other tickets, and any vouchers required. We aim to send these out 4-6 weeks before the start of the tour.
