Our new Road to Real Adventure offers even greater riding thrills than our established Copper Canyon Adventure. The mountains of northern Mexico just south of Monterrey are as imposing and dramatic as you will find anywhere. Range after range of jagged peaks hide secluded green valleys and broad seasonal rivers. Forests of pines and miles of Baja like yucca sprawling across the arid Altiplano make up the unusual flora. The road ultimately takes you high into the mountains and the Colonial era mining town of Reál de Catorce which is experiencing a renaissance after years of near dormancy.

Our adventure tour means riding on dirt and gravel roads for a more challenging and physically involved ride. It is not a rally, speed and performance are secondary to the emphasis of discovering the exciting cultures and natural beauty of the Altiplano.

We recommend that riders have at least some experience on dirt or gravel roads, although experienced road riders should not have difficulty with the riding conditions. The routing is only moderately technical with occasional optional routes offered to accommodate different levels of rider experience. Passengers and non-riding guests may ride in the support vehicle.

Reál de Catorce has the feel of a high Andean colonial town in Bolivia. At nearly 3,000 m, it is remote, and the cobble stoned streets and rock walls ooze with intrigue and history. The Huichole Indians travel hundreds of miles into the surrounding hills to practice their shamanistic rituals. The hills are covered with peyote, a mind altering stimulant integral to their traditions and lifestyle. Other riches were found here too by ambitious Spanish colonists who by 1772 were tapping into veins of silver ore and gold.

Itinerary

The tour starts and ends in McAllen, Texas with our first night south of the border in the lovely town of Santiago. The actual routing will include nights in Reál de Catorce and will adjust from date to date to accommodate climate and road conditions that vary throughout the season.
