Introduction

H-C Travel is proud to offer motorcycle insurance designed specifically for British and other non-US/Canadian nationals touring in the United States of America and Canada. We provide you with insurance that meets the statutory requirements of every state in the USA, and our coverage will also comply with every Canadian Province. You may purchase coverage for liability only or liability with fire, theft, vandalism and collision. Your own UK motorcycle insurance does not cover you in North America.

NEW!!! For 2008 we have introduced a completely new policy, offering cover to a much wider range of motorcycles and riders. We now cover sports bikes, custom bikes, road-legal enduro/offroad bikes, trikes, sidecars and trailers with no surcharges. And as a rider there are no age or penalty points related surcharges either. Please read all of the information carefully before completing the application form.

Eligibility Requirements

You are eligible for this insurance programme if:

• You have a full, unrestricted national license
• You are not a US or Canadian citizen
• You are not a permanent resident of the USA or Canada
• You are at least 18 years of age, there is no upper age limit
• The motorcycle to be used is not a rental, short-term lease or buyback motorcycle

The description of insurance coverage in this brochure is a summary only. The coverage is subject to terms and conditions outlined and certain restrictions, limitations and exclusions contained in the policy of insurance. In the event of any conflict between the description of coverage below and the policy of insurance, the provisions contained in the policy of insurance will govern. This insurance is issued in the USA by Michael I. Mandell, Inc. on behalf of H-C Travel Ltd.

Our insurance provides statutory cover in all US states and Canadian provinces, is based on the current US value of your motorcycle, and is ONLY available in the UK through us - your British insurance will not cover you. All premiums include handling, payment and other charges, and are subject to change without notice.

We offer you 3 different levels of cover for your motorcycle. You choose:

Option 1. Liability only cover. Protects you against claims other people make against you for injury or damages they incur when you are at fault in an accident. You can take out cover from the legal minimum in a state up to $500,000 per accident (maximum $250,000/person, $100,000 property). Just decide how much cover you want.

Option 2. Fire, theft and vandalism cover (bizarrely Americans call this comprehensive when it isn’t!). As Option 1 and also protects your motorcycle from accidental damage caused by anything other than a collision or single vehicle accident. $500 excess. Also includes cover for up to $3,000 of aftermarket optional equipment, ie not installed by the manufacturer, including sidecars, trailers and trike conversion kit costs.

Option 3. Fire, theft, vandalism and collision cover. As option 2, and also pays for damages as above and also when your motorcycle hits another object or vehicle, is hit by another vehicle, or rolls over. $500 excess. Also includes cover for up to $3,000 of aftermarket optional equipment, ie not installed by the manufacturer. We recommend this cover as the best of the three options.

Uninsured motorist cover for property damage/bodily injury liability Optional but strongly recommended. Insures you if the other party is under- or un-insured. Limits up to $500,000 per accident, maximum $250,000 per person, you select from the levels of cover available. The amount you choose CANNOT be more than the amount you choose under Options 1, 2 or 3.

Passengers Passengers are included in this policy, but like you they MUST have appropriate travel insurance to cover them for any medical expenses in the event of an accident while on the motorcycle. We can arrange that for you – see our Travel insurance information.

Premiums

Choose one only from options 1, 2 or 3 and then add uninsured motorist if required. Premiums given are PER MONTH, and you can insure up to 4 months at once. And the good news for 2008 is that NOT ONLY HAVE WE MADE INSURING YOUR MOTORCYCLE IN THE USA EASIER THAN EVER, BUT WE HAVE REDUCED OUR RATES!

Please note months are NOT calendar months. 1 month is 30 days, 2 months is 59 days, 3 months is 88 days and 4 months is 117 days.

So for example for a Honda Goldwing, if you want Option 3 plus uninsured motorist cover, both with maximum liability included, for 2 months (59 days), then the total premium is £231 + £26 x 2 = £514 + £60 service fee = £574. Or for a BMW F650 with only State legal minimum liability for 1 month the premium is £20 + £60 = £80.
