About

Established by David Grist in 1994, H-C Travel offers the widest selection of motorcycle tours and rentals available worldwide, and is the recognised pioneer and market leader in the UK. No other UK tour operator has the same breadth or depth of knowledge, the expertise or experience in international motorcycle travel. We are proud of our reputation for the quality of our motorcycles, tours, and advice. And we don’t cut corners just to save a few pounds on what may well be your holiday of a lifetime!

  • We offer motorcycle tours and motorcycle hire on all 5 continents. Whatever your experience, whatever you want, and whatever your budget, we have something for you. From riding Route 66 on a Harley, climbing the highest pass in the Himalayas on an Enfield, offroading in the Philippines, and adventure tours in Laos to the sublime road riding in New Zealand. We do it all and a lot more besides.

H-C Travel is the longest established international motorcycle tour operator in the UK. We have been providing dream motorcycle tours since 1994 and are celebrating our silver anniversary in 2019! Our approach is personal – friendly yet professional –  and all of our holidays are covered legally and financially by our TTA membership and ATOL licence. All our tours are also licenced or approved in the destination country. Our motorcycles are locally registered and insured, and if you are on a guided tour with us, our guides own the motorcycles, they aren’t hired or borrowed. Our guides are all experienced and all live locally. They really do know the area, the roads, the people, and the sights – to help you get the most out of your holiday. And as a professional travel company, we of course arrange flights and travel insurance and can make other travel arrangements for you. We take the work out of your holiday!

Road, adventure or offroad, hire only, self-guided or fully supported guided tours, it’s all here. And it is all backed by our many years of experience, and our award winning team. As one of our longest standing and regular customers, Ross, says ‘I ride with H-C Travel because I know I can trust them’.

Our  sister company Orange & Black run our USA, Canada, Cuba and Mexico guided and self-guided tours and rentals programme. See our Orange & Black website.

  • We have worked with many of our overseas partners since our inception and the bond of trust that has grown up over the years works directly to benefit you, our customers. You can be sure of professional levels of service and customer care, professional accreditation and financial prudence, and the benefits of our experience throughout the planning, booking and taking of your dream holiday. People book with us year after year because, in their own words, they ‘trust’ us.

We never forget that your money and your health are more important than a quick buck, and nothing demonstrates more clearly our attitude towards our customers than our approach to protecting you legally and financially. Yes it is boring, but so is sitting at home when someone’s stolen your money. As a member of the Travel Trust Association, we offer 100% guaranteed financial protection for your holiday money – it is held in an independently controlled client account, backed by insurance against fraud and theft, until your holiday is completed. (If you book with an overseas operator, or even some UK operators, you may find you have no financial or legal protection whatsoever!) What we can say with certainty is that no other tour operator, of any size, anywhere in the world, offers you more financial and legal protection than H-C Travel. We also hold an ATOL licence allowing us to arrange that all-important part of your holiday, the flights there and back, and have contracts with a number of other specialist UK travel companies to make sure we can arrange just about anything for your holiday.

We have 6 staff working in our office and shop in Overton, Hampshire and our overseas partners in each region. You are more than welcome to come and visit us in Overton to discuss your holiday plans any time!

  • I just wanted to thank you …. for providing such a well-fettled BMW 650GS. It clocked up 5,500kms with no oil top-up and no chain adjustment required. The weather was good too!

Dee and I have now been back in UK just one week since we finished our self-guided tour of both North and South Islands of New Zealand on a Triumph Explorer provided by Te Waipounamu and the jet-lag has just about worn off!

We had a fabulous 3 weeks touring and I would like to thank Dave Simpson for his help in providing a superb choice of routes for us to ride each day (the further the better!). We cannot praise the arrangements made by your ground agents in New Zealand (Te Waipounamu) highly enough. We really appreciated their efforts to bring the bikes across to our Auckland hotel at the beginning of the trip as well as the relaxed manner in which the handover and return of the bikes was made (we have hired bikes many times before and believe me, the handover and return session can be an unpleasant occasion). The choice of hotels along our 4,000 km route was superb and the booking arrangements at each was faultless. The bikes themselves were trouble-free throughout (as we expect from Triumphs!) and their request part way through our holiday for Dee to collect a BMW F700 GS from a Hotel at Motueka and ride it to Kumara Junction was an unexpected bonus!

I have enjoyed the hospitality of Walter and Joang on two separate visits to Thailand, I found the enduro tours great fun, great company and a very relaxed atmosphere, every day an adventure…. I would recommend the experience to any rider regardless of experience

Deano - Thailand - Enduro Tours

We had the holiday of a lifetime: Christmas in Singapore, New Year in Australia and most importantly 2 fabulous weeks in New Zealand. Whilst the weather was a little cooler than normal for January, the sights, sounds and vibrancy of South Island more than made up for it. The Triumph was ready and waiting for us, and the guys at Te Waipounamu motorcycles were helpful and friendly beyond expectations. We covered rising 3,000km of trouble free, spectacular miles and grew very attached to the little Tiger.

Our accommodation was wonderful, but special note has to go to the distillery homestead in the Cardrona valley. The views were stunning and the welcome warm and genuine. Over a very nice bottle of wine, we talked about bikes, the Islands, Christchurch (where they used to live) and everything in between. At the end of a very wet day’s riding this was very special.

Would we go back? Yes. Definitely.

Andy Corteen, 2017 - New Zealand

I write to thank you for your hard work and commitment in ensuring my trip to Bhutan was successful. I returned home yesterday evening. The holiday really was a wonderful adventure. All aspects went well, especially the communications with Jatinder at Impact Travel for the Agra Extension – transport links and guide. All connections were made smoothly. Impact provided a first class service and If I ever have the good fortune to return to India I would certainly wish to use the company again.

The only deviation to the itinerary was Alam’s very sensible decision to shorten the longest run to two days rather than the one. This was a very good decision as 300 km on such rough roads would have been very difficult to manage in the one day. Alam changed the accommodation to enable this to take place. This meant that we missed the Darjeeling ‘leg’ but this was absolutely the right decision. As with the Tibet Trip last year Alam’s management, local knowledge and communication with the various support team members was superb.

The accommodation throughout was excellent, even a couple of local guest houses provided clean rooms and excellent food. But the hotels could not have been bettered. The Riding Team really gelled together really well as a friendship group, this being greatly assisted by us overcoming some challenging terrain as a group and sharing the experience. We were very much of the same level in riding ability.

So, another great trip. I thank you, and David too, for facilitating this. I do hope that I may be able to holiday again with HC Travel at some time in the future.

    David Rolfe, 2017 - Bhutan

New Zealand was great – it felt like stealing an extra summer, I always hate riding in February in the UK as I don’t like snow or ice.

  • David Grist
    Company Director
David has a degree in, of all things, Marine Zoology, from UCNW Bangor. It was there he first got seriously interested in bikes and quickly learnt wet weather braking and the benefits of avoiding dry stone walls! After an initial career in book publishing, David got struck by a bright idea, and that was the start of H-C Travel.  His real motorcycle passion is – noise, smoke and the occasional twitch in the backside – Kawasaki triples. David owns among others a 1975 H2C 750 which gave the company its name. His favourite destinations…. anywhere as long as it is on a bike. The Rockies, South Africa and India stand out as highlights.

She has travelled extensively in South Africa, Malawi, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Zambia and can talk for hours on any of them, as well as Greece, Mauritius and the Caribbean! She loves bikes and has recently sold a Harley-Davidson and is looking for her next motorcycle.
