Thailand & Laos

Gateway to Indochina (Off-Road)

This off-road tour through Northern Thailand and Laos is littered with national parks and there are plenty of village trails that you can choose from throughout the Thai part of the tour. The hills rise up to over 1500 m, and this terrain continues into Laos, so the nature of the roads and the riding reflects this. The visit to the world heritage city of Luang Prabang is the obvious cultural highlight of the tour, with its temples, palaces and museums. You also ride through the ‘Golden Triangle’, remote Lao village communities and small towns.

Riding in Laos is a true adventure and a unique motorcycling experience. Road conditions are highly unpredictable, as is electricity supply, opening times in restaurants, and much more! Itineraries may change at short notice, and sometimes even during the tour. So, instead of giving you a full itinerary, we give you just a very brief one indicating our likely route.

— Visit tribal villages only reachable by narrow trails
— Varied terrain including mud trails and river crossings
— Cross tree-trunk bridges
— Witness the wonders of Luang Prabang’s Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site
— Cross the Mekong River

  • Walter Fenske, was born in Germany in 1957. He trained as a mechanic and ran his own garage, and first came to Thailand in 1988 for a holiday. Walter fell in love with the place and became a resident in 1989. In the same year he founded a motorcycle garage in Chiang Mai together with his friend “Joe” Sauerborn, which also offered motorcycle rentals.

In 1994 Walter founded the oldest legally registered motorcycle tour company in Northern Thailand, and in 1995 H-C Travel teamed up with Walter to offer British riders the opportunity to discover the off-road delights of Northern Thailand.

Walter married Joang in 2001 and, in between looking after their pot–bellied pigs, she manages the business day to day. They are both committed to making your time in Thailand fun, safe, exciting and thoroughly enjoyable. We know you won’t be disappointed!

    Karl-Heinz (Charlie) Blechschmidt,
is also from Germany and before he started work in Asia he travelled all over Europe and North Africa by motorcycle. Some years ago he took his first motorbike tour around south-east Asia and so fell in love with the countryside and the nature in this part of the world that he decided to share his wonderful adventure with other people. He married in 2015 and is now happily settled in northern Thailand.
