If you are looking to tour extensively, or love your motorcycle dearly, then we can arrange seafreight to a wide range of major seaports from the UK. As a general rule for holidays of less than 3-4 weeks, shipping should be considered a clear second option to motorcycle hire – see our relevant web or brochure information. For airfreight to Canada, please see our separate information.
The aim of our seafreight service is to offer you a reliable, simple way of transporting your motorcycle around the world, and we have been running this successfully for over 10 years. We will make all the arrangements for your motorcycle to be shipped, uncrated, by seafreight from the UK to Canada, the USA, Australia, New Zealand or South Africa. We prepare all of the paperwork necessary for shipping your motorcycle, but you have to deal with the customs officials! The price quoted is valid for 30 days from the date of the shipping contract. Space on our cargo ships is never a problem!
How does it work?
Just deliver the bike, clean, to Southampton, with a small amount of fuel, a set of keys, and disconnect any alarms. No other preparation is necessary. Allow 4 days for loading. Transit insurance is available on request if required – typically £150-£200 each way. No possessions are allowed to be taken on board, but fitted luggage is accepted if empty. Allow 9-32 days outbound to the USA, 21-60 days return, plus 4 days for loading. Allow 6-8 weeks for Australia and New Zealand, and about 3 weeks for South Africa. We can also arrange for you to fly to your destination where your motorcycle will be waiting for you, overnight hotel accommodation, so you can collect your motorcycle the next morning, refreshed, and the all-important travel insurance, for up to 1 year.
Please note that any return shipment has to be arranged in that country. We are unable to book that here, but you will be advised by the local office on procedures when you collect your motorcycle. Having got your motorcycle there quickly and safely, the return should hold no surprises for you.
Our prices include UK wharfage and handling charges, Bills of Lading, Shipping Note, Manifest Filing Fee, fuel surcharges (BAF as at 05/01/2017, subject to change), Sulphur Recovery Fee and Customs Declaration documents, and all document preparation. Our prices exclude any overseas agent, handling and customs charges, and security escort fees, which you will have to pay locally. Return prices are about the same.
If you wish to proceed, please review the information on our Seafreight Shipping Contract then print, sign and return all 4 pages of the contract with your payment. You must also include one photocopy of your motorcycle registration document, passport and driver’s license. Upon receipt of your documentation, we will complete your reservation and send you instructions for delivering and collecting your motorcycle. You must also provide us with an address and phone number at your port of arrival – this can be the hotel you are staying at on your first night.
Please note that if you have a hire purchase agreement on your motorcycle, you must obtain a notarized written release from your hire purchase provider to temporarily take your motorcycle out of the country. This is a customs requirement and you will have to produce the permission letter.
Carnets are required in most countries, the USA and Canada are the main exceptions.
For Australia, you must have the permission of the Australian government to import your motorcycle BEFORE it is shipped. Failure to do so could result in up to a 6-week delay in collecting your motorbike in Australia.
And a quick word of advice, always try and register with the local equivalent of the AA or RAC, there are often some useful benefits such as hotel discounts and maps as well as advice or help if you break down or have an accident. But, do NOT expect UK-style roadside recovery, it doesn’t exist!
